Oscar Wilde once remarked that “work is the curse of the drinking classes”. For anyone that has traversed the many staircases that populate Barrymore’s Music Hall on a Sunday night, Oscar’s observation rings a familiar truth that we’ve all experienced Monday morning at one time or another. Barrymore's Retro 80s Sundays has been an industry staple for over a decade. However, the world and entertainment industry alike has changed dramatically over that decade, including tastes, styles, cultures and especially music. While the weekly Sunday turnout is not what it was 10 or even 5 years ago, Barrymore’s long weekend Sundays continue to draw in huge crowds of people looking for something outside the same top 40 hits that plague the radio playlists and other Ottawa venues. This suggests that demand for the 80s as well as the 90s hasn’t wavered, but that the audience might need to be better accommodated. Thus, Barrymore’s Music Hall’s Retro 80s will officially be moving to EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT as of May 3rd, 2014 and thereby removing the enemy of Monday mornings from interfering as an excuse to go out and have some fun.
Sundays will remain open as Barrymore’s’ industry night with a mash up of current and classic hits featuring $4 bar rail and $3 tequila and LONG WEEKEND SUNDAYS will remain exclusively Retro 80s and 90s as usual.
Please join us Saturday, May 3rd for our GRAND RELAUNCH of Retro 80s and 90s, where we will be sampling some beverages courtesy of Corby’s and Molson featuring some of Ottawa’s best bar staff! See you on the dance floor.
